NHL trade rumors for January 23, 2022 have the Edmonton Oilers interested in Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka.

Mikko Koskinen had a stellar 44 save performance last night against the Calgary Flames but that will not stop the NHL trade rumors from circulating that the Edmonton Oilers need a goalie if they want to be Stanley Cup contenders.

Elliotte Friedman was on Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts segment and talked about the Oilers goaltending situation. Friedman says one name that was being linked to the Oilers was Arizona Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka, Friedman says he doesn’t even think he’s available right now, Coyotes are actually trying to extend him to a new contract.

Friedman went on to say, the Oilers are not crazy about giving up their first round pick, they’re also not crazy about giving up their second and third round picks, which depends on where the Oilers finish and the asset they have to give up from the Duncan Keith trade. It appears the Oilers will only consider cheaper cost-effective moves for a goalie.

From what Friedman has stated above, the Oilers have no intention of improving their goaltending situation if they do not want to give up assets. They might just try and make the playoffs with the team they have.

There is also rumors going around that Evander Kane would rather sign with the Washington Capitals than the Oilers.

  1. So the Oilers do not want to give up any assets to improve the team. They will be hard pressed to make the playoffs. Wasting away Connor McDavid in his prime. What a shame.
