Jakok Chychrun Leafs trade
NHL trade rumors for October 20, 2022 feature the Toronto Maple Leafs making a trade for Arizona Coyotes defenceman Jakob Chychrun.

The Toronto Maple Leaf fan base have been upset over the Leafs slow start and playing down to lesser competition.

They have struggled defensively and many NHL Analysts feel the Leafs need another top-four dman to be legit Stanley Cup contenders.

Is Jakob Chychrun the Answer for the Maple Leafs?

Jake Muzzin is no longer a top-four blueliner, he is injured too often and Leafs management must find a way to upgrade.

The Maple Leafs looked at adding another defenceman this past offseason with no luck and no Leafs cap space but Jakob Chychrun is the answer and they can make the salary cap work in a Chychrun trade.

How the Leafs can make a Jakob Chychrun trade work

With Jakob Chychrun making $4.6 million for the next three years and the NHL salary cap going up starting next season, the Maple Leafs can move out salary on their current roster to accommodate Chychrun’s cap hit.

Nick Kypreos put a piece on the Toronto Star and reports if the Toronto Maple Leafs are unwilling to give up a prospect like Matthew Knies, the Yotes would accept two first-round picks instead of a top prospect and first round pick.

The Coyotes would also want one of Rasmus Sandin, Timothy Liljegren or Topi Niemela and they would take back Alex Kerfoot’s contract to complete a trade.

Kypreos went on to say that the Leafs should move on a Chychrun trade now and not wait until the NHL trade deadline.
