The Edmonton Oilers are in salary cap trouble like many of the other top teams in the NHL. The Oilers have just over $5.6 million in cap space available to fill three roster spots.
One of the players the Oilers are looking to sign is restricted free agent Evan Bouchard. The Oilers could sign him to a bridge deal to have a lower salary cap hit over the next few years, but Bouchard is seeking a long-term contract.
Hurricanes, Kraken, Sabres could send Evan Bouchard an offer sheet
NHL trade rumors are making the rounds that a few teams with salary cap space and the draft picks available could come in and offer Evan Bouchard a contract that the Oilers cannot match.
Josh Wegman of The Score states in his piece that a team could offer Bouchard a five-year contract with a salary cap hit of $8.5 million/year.
It would cost a team a first, second and third round picks in the 2024 NHL entry draft.
Wegman believes the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken should target Evan Bouchard.
