The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t resting on their Stanley Cup laurels. Their blockbuster moves continue in the lead-up to the NHL trade deadline with the acquisition of coveted defenseman Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames.

Hanifin, 27, was one of the most sought-after names on the market. With his contract expiring this summer and a rumored preference for playing in the U.S., Vegas swooped in for the skilled blueliner. In exchange, the Flames acquire young defenseman Daniil Miromanov a first-round draft pick, and a conditional third-round pick, upgraded to a second if Vegas wins a playoff round.

Golden Knights Load Up For Playoff Push

The Golden Knights clearly mean business. This move follows the acquisition of winger Anthony Mantha from the Washington Capitals just a day earlier. Vegas is aggressively using the cap flexibility created by Mark Stone’s LTIR designation to bolster their roster for a repeat championship run.

The addition of Hanifin solidifies what was already a formidable Vegas defense corps. Hanifin’s mobility and two-way game make him a perfect fit for coach Bruce Cassidy’s system, boosting their bid to become the first back-to-back champs since the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016-17.
