NHL insider Elliotte Friedman recently confirmed on the “Donnie and Dhali” show that the two teams have had discussions, although he couldn’t confirm which players were involved. Friedman did, however, “spitball” a potential trade scenario involving Pettersson going to Buffalo in exchange for a package that includes Dylan Cozens and Bowen Byram.

This isn’t the first time Pettersson’s name has surfaced in trade rumors. The 26-year-old is a dynamic offensive talent and a cornerstone player for the Canucks. However, Vancouver’s ongoing struggles and the uncertainty surrounding Pettersson’s future with the team have fueled speculation about a potential move.
The Sabres, on the other hand, are desperate to end their 13-year playoff drought. They have a young and promising core, but they lack a true game-breaker like Pettersson. Acquiring him would significantly bolster their offensive firepower and signal their intent to become a contender.
Friedman’s suggestion of Cozens and Byram as potential trade chips is intriguing. Cozens is a solid two-way center with a high ceiling, while Byram is a talented young defenseman with offensive upside. However, it’s unclear whether that package would be enough to entice the Canucks to part with Pettersson.
