The NHL may be on a short Christmas break, with the trade freeze in effect until December 27th, but that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from churning. In fact, it seems to have intensified, with whispers and speculation swirling around various teams. One of the most intriguing rumors involves the Colorado Avalanche and their pursuit of a third-line center.
Avalanche insider Aarif Deen recently reported that the Avs have set their sights on Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson. Deen believes Robertson would be an excellent fit alongside Jonathan Drouin on the Avalanche’s third line, providing a much-needed offensive spark and playmaking ability.
This isn’t the first time Robertson’s name has surfaced in trade talks. He’s been the subject of NHL trade rumors since the offseason when he reportedly requested a trade out of Toronto. Despite the earlier rumblings, Robertson has found himself a spot on the Leafs’ third line alongside Max Domi and Bobby McMann, showcasing his skill and potential.
Why the Colorado Avalanche Want Nick Robertson
The Avalanche’s interest in Robertson makes perfect sense. They’ve been searching for a third-line winger, and Robertson possesses the speed, skill, and offensive instincts to fill that role admirably. He’s a dynamic player who can create scoring chances and contribute offensively, something the Avalanche could use to bolster their depth scoring.
However, acquiring Robertson won’t be easy. The Maple Leafs are a strong team with Stanley Cup aspirations, and they may be reluctant to part with a young, promising player like Robertson unless they receive an offer they can’t refuse. It would likely take a significant package to pry him away from Toronto at this point in the season.
What Would a Trade Look Like?
It’s difficult to say exactly what the Avalanche would have to give up to acquire Robertson. However, a potential trade package could involve a combination of a draft pick and a prospect. The Avalanche have a deep prospect pool, and they might be willing to part with a young player or two to land a player of Robertson’s caliber.
Ultimately, the success of any potential trade hinges on the willingness of both teams to make a deal. The Avalanche clearly see Robertson as a valuable addition to their roster, but it remains to be seen whether the Maple Leafs are willing to let him go.

It’s good to know that a team has true interest in Nicky, the issue here is that unless Tre has a deal for a third line winger to replace Robertson, I can’t see him moving him. If Tre does find a player that fit’s the bill then I could see Tre flipping Robertson for a pick or high end prospect. It’s to bad that you don’t have a spare third line center. We’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds down the road.
Since when is Robertson a playmaker? He doesn’t create offencehes a goal scorer. A finisher.
A. He isn’t a center. B. Any GM that gave up a first for Robinson would immediately be run out of town.
