Kailer Yamamoto
NHL trade rumors for August 4, 2022 have the Oilers looking to trade a player after the Kailer Yamamoto signing.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year contract extension worth $6.2 million. His contract gives the Oilers a salary cap hit of $3.1 million per year.

When Yamamoto’s contract expires he will still be a restricted free agent with a $3.2 million qualifying offer and two years away from unrestricted free agent eligibility.

Yamamoto, 23, set new career highs with Edmonton last year in games played (81), goals (20), assists (21) & points (41).

Yamamoto, a right wing was drafted 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 1st round of the 2017 NHL entry draft.

Currently over a career that spans 5 seasons, he has a total 93 points in 186 games played, and 8 playoffs points in 22 games played.

With the Yamamoto signing, the Oilers now sit a hefty $6,031,333 over the salary cap according to our friends over at Cap Friendly. You would have to think that GM Ken Holland will be looking to move out a forward before the season starts.

NHL trade rumors have had forward Jesse Puljujärvi on the trade block. Another possible option is the Oilers trading defenceman Tyson Barrie to help get the Oilers salary cap compliant.
