Picture of the Montreal Canadiens hockey arena. Which team led the NHL in attendance for the 2022-23 season?
Which team led the NHL in attendance for the 2022-23 season? Was it the Leafs, Rangers, Habs, Vegas, Kraken, Oilers or another team?

With the NHL playoffs nearing an end, all the metrics are starting to roll in from regular season play.

One stat that NHL fans have interest in, is NHL attendance. For instance, who lead the NHL in attendance for the 2022-23 season?

Was it the Toronto Maple Leafs? New York Rangers? Vegas Golden Knights?

Which team led the NHL in attendance for the 2022-23 season?

The Montreal Canadiens led the league in attendance because of arena size and the passion Habs fans have for their hometown hockey team.

The most surprising metric is the two teams that fall in the number two and number three spot.

  1. Montreal: 21078
  2. Carolina: 19526
  3. Tampa Bay: 19092
  4. Detroit: 18819
  5. Toronto: 18753
  6. Vancouver: 18702
  7. Washington: 18573
  8. Minnesota: 18545
  9. Boston: 18372
  10. Dallas: 18371

The Carolina Hurricanes were an elite team all year, but it is still surprising seeing them hovering near the top as they have struggled to get fans in seat in the past.

The Lightning have been a dominant team for years but the attendance number still mystifies me. It is awesome they are ranked #3 as they appear to be a hockey town over a baseball town, as the Tampa Bay Rays are the best team in baseball and they continue to have an empty stadium year after year.

What are NHL fans saying about the top 10 NHL attendance numbers for 2022-23

The price of tickets makes a HUGE difference. When I was in Tampa this past February we could have gotten a pair of tickets for under $50 bucks…try that in Montreal…

Every hockey arena has a different capacity. The cup champions (Colorado Avalanche) aren’t on this list, and it’s not because people stopped going to Avs games.

How about revenue, regardless of attendance. Leafs miles ahead of this list with the exorbitant ticket and concession prices, miles ahead!
