Timo Meier trade to New Jersey
The San Jose Sharks have let teams know Timo Meier is available for a trade. The New Jersey Devils seem like the logical destination.

Timo Meier has been in the NHL trade rumor mill since November when San Jose Sharks management let teams know he would be available for a trade.

With Meier having a $6 million Sharks salary cap hit, it has made it difficult for teams in the playoff hunt to add that type of salary because they are maxed out on their own salary cap.

The other HUGE issue is Meier is owed a $10 million qualifying offer in order to retain his rights and prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent.

If a team is giving up a lot of assets to get Meier, they will want to re-sign him long-term.

New Jersey Devils interested in a Timo Meier trade

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period is reporting the New Jersey Devils have interest in a Timo Meier trade. They would like to add another top-six forward to the lineup.

The Devils have a lot of young assets and draft currency to use as trade bait to offer the Sharks to land Meier.

Meier currently has 47 points (27g, 20a) in 47 games played. His next contract could hover around the $8.5 million/year mark.

What are fans saying about a Timo Meier trade?

If a playoff team needs a forward its Timo Meier. If a playoff team needs a defenceman its Jakob Chychrun

Trade Meier to the New York Rangers. Meier on a line with Artemi Panarin would be sick!

Hard not to overstate that Timo Meier is EXACTLY what the Toronto Leafs need in their top six. He has to be their top target
