The NHL Trade rumors mill has the Colorado Avalanche looking to trade Sam Girard with Bo Byram playing so well.

On today’s NHL Trade Rumors chatter we will discuss Sam Girard. With the exceptional play of Colorado Avalanche defenceman Bo Byram, it has made Girard expendable.

Mike Chambers from the Denver Post reports Bo Byram, the first defenseman selected in the 2019 draft (fourth overall), has made Girard expendable. Girard was offered as part of an Eichel trade. The Avs now may focus on trading for another forward — or perhaps a goalie — down the road.

Chambers went on to say, trading Girard and his $5 million long-term cap hit would not make this team weaker. The Avs would have less depth at D, but with Byram healthy and Devon Toews and Cale Makar on the mend, this is still a team that’s blessed on the blue line.

Trading Girard would give the Avs some salary cap relief if they use him as trade bait for a backup goalie or depth forward plus a draft pick or prospect in return. It will be interesting to see what the Avs do with Girard as the season moves along.
