Anything less would make it difficult to justify moving a 22-year-old centre with Wright’s pedigree.

Why Shane Wright Still Has Significant NHL Trade Value
It would be easy to look only at Wright’s NHL production and conclude his value has dropped dramatically since draft night.
I do not believe that is how NHL front offices will evaluate him.
Centres with size, hockey intelligence, pedigree and several years of team control remain extremely valuable.
More importantly, Wright is still only 22.
Players do not all develop at the same speed, particularly at centre, where defensive responsibilities and matchup demands can make the transition to the NHL significantly more complicated.
That is why another organization could look at Wright and see opportunity rather than disappointment.
Give him consistent top-six minutes, offensive-zone deployment and power-play opportunities, and there is still a realistic possibility that his production climbs.
Seattle has to consider that possibility before trading him.
The nightmare scenario would be moving Wright for a modest return and watching him become a 60-point centre somewhere else.
That is exactly why the Kraken’s asking price should remain high.
What Would a Shane Wright Trade Actually Look Like?
I would be surprised if Seattle moved Wright primarily for draft capital.
The Kraken appear much closer to wanting immediate NHL help than another long-term rebuild.
A true hockey trade makes considerably more sense.
That could mean Wright being exchanged for a young winger with greater offensive upside, or being used as the centerpiece of a larger package for a proven scorer.
There is also a natural appeal for teams looking to get younger down the middle.
A 22-year-old centre carrying an affordable contract is the type of player almost every general manager should at least call about.
The challenge is finding a team that possesses the offensive player Seattle wants and is willing to move that player for Wright.
That is usually where blockbuster trade discussions become complicated.
Both organizations have to believe they are solving a problem.
Is a Shane Wright Trade With the Seattle Kraken Getting Closer?
My read is that the possibility is becoming more legitimate, but that does not necessarily mean a trade is imminent.
There is an important distinction.
Seattle appears willing to listen.
Other teams have reasons to call.
Wright has characteristics that should keep his trade value relatively strong.
And the Kraken have a clear organizational need for more dynamic offense.
Those ingredients create the foundation for a real trade conversation.
But Seattle should remain patient.
There is no reason to move Shane Wright simply because his name continues appearing in NHL trade rumors.
If the Kraken receive an offer that brings back a legitimate top-six offensive difference-maker, then general manager Jason Botterill has a decision to make.
If those offers never arrive, keeping Wright and giving him another opportunity to establish himself in Seattle remains perfectly reasonable.
That leverage may ultimately be Seattle’s biggest advantage.
The Kraken do not have to trade Shane Wright.
They simply have to be willing to do it if the right player becomes available.
