Shane Wright development
NHL trade rumors for November 21, 2022 feature Shane Wright. Will he end up playing in the NHL or OHL for rest of the year?

It has been a struggle for rookie Shane Wright to crack the Seattle Kraken lineup this season. He has been scratched more times than he has played.

If the Kraken have no desire to play him in the NHL this year, they should just send him back to the OHL so he can play and develop his skillset some more.

Shane Wright sent to the AHL on a conditioning stint

Jeff Marek was on Hockey Night in Canada and stated Shane Wright has now been a healthy scratch 5 games in a row which makes him eligible for a 2-week conditioning stint in the AHL with Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Marek went on to say in his piece that this was always the Kraken’s plan. Wright was previously scratched for 4 consecutive games but Jared McCann got injured and he drew in the line-up so Seattle had to reset and scratch him for 5 consecutive games again.

Because of his age and NHL rules, Wright cannot be sent directly to the AHL and play a full season. Wrights only options are to play in the NHL or OHL.

What is next for Shane Wright?

Now that Shane Wright have been sent down to the AHL for a ‘conditioning stint’ it is my guess when he comes back to the Seattle lineup, he will ride the pine once again until it is time for him to be at Canada’s World Junior training camp. Camp begins on December 9-12, 2022 at Winsport Arena at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

After the World Juniors are done in January, it will be interesting to see if they send him back to his junior team or continue to be a bench warmer in Seattle until there is an injury?
