Earlier this year NHL rumors were going around that the Montreal Canadiens could trade Phillip Danault since it was reported Danault turned down a six-year, US$30-million offer last off-season.
With Danault being left unprotected in the Seattle Kraken expansion draft, it is likely that Danault will not be back with the Habs.
Despite the excellent playoff run Danault had with the Canadiens, the 28-year-old forward will become an unrestricted free agent on July 28.
Le Journal de Montreal is reporting Danault does not expect to sign in Montreal. In fact, his property is currently for sale.
According to another source, the Victoriaville native is seeking a contract term of five or six seasons which would bring him an annual salary of around $ 5.5 million – $6 million.
If Danault is gone, NHL Trade Rumors are circulating that the Habs could use the salary cap space to sign free agent forward Mike Hoffman.
