Ottawa Senators Center Shane Pinto celebrating a goal
Could Shane Pinto be the Senators' next long-term star? Latest reports suggest a multi-year contract extension is imminent.

Word is out that the Ottawa Senators are closing in on a long-term contract with breakout star Shane Pinto. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun confirmed that Pinto’s agent and Senators GM Steve Staios are engaged in serious negotiations.

Pinto, who is just 23, made a splash upon returning to the Senators lineup this season. He was forced to sit out half the season due to a suspension for violating the NHL’s wagering rules. The incident has apparently done nothing to derail his value to the team, as he’s notched 27 points in just 39 games played.

Both sides seem interested in a contract spanning five or six years. Ideally, Pinto would like to have the details ironed out before he represents Team USA at the upcoming 2024 IIHF World Championships in Czechia.
