Tony DeAngelo in Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, potentially on the move as per latest NHL trade rumors
Explore the latest on Tony DeAngelo trade rumors. Will the Leafs make a trade for the defenseman to replace John Klingberg?

The NHL trade rumors are swirling, and the Carolina Hurricanes have signaled their willingness to trade defenseman Tony DeAngelo. With his contract set to expire, DeAngelo presents an intriguing option for teams in need of an experienced puck-moving rearguard.

This season, DeAngelo’s performance with the Hurricanes has been a mixed bag. He has tallied one goal and six assists in 16 games but also holds a minus-ten rating. Despite these numbers, his Hurricanes salary cap hit is relatively modest at $1.675 million AAV.

This affordability, coupled with his experience, makes him a viable target for teams seeking to bolster their defensive lineup without breaking the bank.

Tony DeAngelo on the Trading Block: Are the Toronto Maple Leafs interested?

DeAngelo’s availability comes at a time when the Hurricanes are looking to optimize their defensive corps. With Brett Pesce out and Jalen Chatfield stepping up, there’s an increased confidence in the team’s defense that makes DeAngelo expendable.

His trade could also allow the Hurricanes to focus more on strengthening their defensive strategies, relying on Brent Burns and Dmitry Orlov for the first and second units’ power-play duties.

Teams in need of a defenseman with offensive skills and a manageable salary cap hit should certainly consider DeAngelo. While his stats this season might not jump off the page, his ability to contribute to the team’s scoring from the back end can’t be overlooked.

The Carolina Hurricanes decision to put him on the market indicates a strategic shift towards a more defensively robust lineup, and DeAngelo could be a key piece for a team looking to add depth and experience to their defense.
