Unpacking the latest NHL trade rumors: Montreal Canadiens may send David Savard to Edmonton Oilers for Cody Ceci, Xavier Bourgault, and a pick.

As the NHL trade deadline looms, whispers from the ice suggest a significant shake-up between the Montreal Canadiens and the Edmonton Oilers.

The buzz around the rink is that David Savard might be trading his Canadiens jersey for one donning the Oilers’ emblem. Let’s delve into why this proposed trade could be a win-win for both franchises.

The Edmonton Oilers are speculated to be offering Cody Ceci, prospect Xavier Bourgault, and a 2024 second-round pick. In return, the Montreal Canadiens would part with David Savard and a 2026 fifth-round pick. This move seems to be a strategic play for both teams, aligning with their current goals and future aspirations.

Inside the Oilers-Canadiens Trade Talks: Savard, Ceci, and Prospects on the Move

For the Montreal Canadiens, this trade is a smart play in their rebuilding phase. With an abundance of defensemen prospects in their ranks, the addition of a forward prospect like Xavier Bourgault could add the necessary depth to their offense. Bourgault, with his impressive skills and potential, could be exactly what the Habs need to bolster their forward group.

On the flip side, the Edmonton Oilers are in the hunt for a defensive upgrade, and David Savard could be the missing piece in their puzzle. Known for his solid defensive play and experience, Savard could bring stability and a wealth of knowledge to the Oilers’ blue line. This move could be a game-changer for the Oilers, providing them with the defensive prowess they need to make a deeper run in the playoffs.

While this trade is still in the realm of speculation, it’s evident that both teams could benefit significantly from this exchange. The Canadiens would acquire a promising forward and additional draft capital, setting them up nicely for the future. Meanwhile, the Oilers would secure a seasoned defenseman to fortify their back end, making them even more formidable contenders.

  1. If I’m making a trade with Edmonton and I’m Montreal, I would offer to take Jack Campbell’s full contract for Jake Allen, I would offer Mike Matheson and Sean Monahan with a fourth overall pick and try to land. Evan Bouchard. It would complete their defense and give them options to deal younger defense to solidify their offense and get a true offensive star.

They should be pushing for guys on teams like Columbus for Patrick Laine, or LA’s Quinton byfield, to bring in that size and skill.
