Nick Holden NHL Trade Rumors
Will the New York Rangers trade Nick Holden?

Are the Leafs looking to make a big trade?

Howard Berger: “From a source: Toronto Maple Leafs have been “up to something” for awhile, and it is again creating “lots of talk” – primarily with one other team. Hmmm.”

New York Rangers looking to trade Nick Holden

New York Post: Larry Brooks reports the New York Rangers are expected to try to trade Nick Holden in order to add another centre to their roster. With Mika Zibanejad signing a five-year, $26.75 million contract, the Rangers are left with under $500,000 in projected cap space for the start of the season, according to Brooks, and trading Holden would free $1.65 million.

Holden, 30, was traded to the Rangers from the Colorado Avalanche last summer for a fourth-round pick. He scored a career-high 11 goals and 34 points in 80 games, while ranking second on the team in average time on ice (20:37).  He added two goals and two assists in 11 playoff games.

Andrei Markov likely not to re-sign with the Canadiens

Le Journal de Montreal: Jean-Francois Chaumont speculates the Montreal Canadiens signing defenseman Mark Streit makes a return of Andrei Markov less likely. Markov seeks a two-year, $12 million contract and the Canadiens won’t meet that demand. However, if he lowers his asking price, the Habs have the room to bring him back.

New Jersey Devils looking to make some trades

Sportsnet: Luke Fox reports New Jersey Devils left wing Taylor Hall likes the moves his club made this summer and doesn’t think they’re finished. “We’ve got some good pieces. I don’t think they’re done by any means. I think there’s some things they’re still looking to do,” Hall said. The Devils need help on defense and GM Ray Shero is reportedly keen to address that issue. Free agent options include Andrei Markov, Francois Beauchemin and Cody Franson. Shero might have better luck via the trade market in September.
