Sportsnet: Damien Cox reports the Toronto Maple Leafs are trying to trade unhappy defenseman Jared Cowen, who cleared waivers and was loaned to the Toronto Marlies but apparently isn’t going there. Cox suggests the Chicago Blackhawks as a trade destination for Cowen, perhaps in a salary swap for winger Bryan Bickell.

The Vancouver Province: Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis finally admitted he’s open to a trade. He was reluctant to waive his no-trade clause because of family. The Dallas Stars appear to the the front-runner in landing Hamhuis. The Boston Bruins are also interested in Hamhuis. The Bruins have a roster spot and a need for a defenceman.
