Steven Stamkos

The Tampa Tribune: If Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steven Stamkos doesn’t sign a contract extension this summer, talk again will run wild that once his contract is up in 2016, he will sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs. You can bet if Stamkos does not sign an extension on July 1 — the earliest he is allowed to sign — that speculation will return as he is eligible to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2015-16 season. Imagine if the Leafs win the draft lottery and get Connor McDavid and Stamkos does not sign this summer… let the rumors begin!

The Columbus Dispatch: The Columbus Blue Jackets believe the 2014-15 season has been hijacked by injuries, and that they have enough talent — when healthy — to be a playoff club in the Eastern Conference. The Blue Jackets listened to trade offers for center Artem Anisimov and right wing Cam Atkinson, but none of the offers were deemed worthy of deal. Columbus will keep listening to offers, and they likely are to trade a forward or two this summer.

The Hockey News: The Ottawa Senators could have several players to move during free agent frenzy in July. Possible trade candidates include defensemen Chris Phillips, Patrick Wiercioch and Eric Gryba, as well as forwards Chris Neil and David Legwand.
