Former Leafs assistant GM Bill Waters was on TSN Radio and he believes the Toronto Maple Leafs are open to trading the 4th overall pick. Waters believes after Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel, players drafted from position 3 to 7 are interchangeable. Player talent begins to dropoff at the 8th overall pick. Example draft scenrio is the Philadelphia Flyers have the 7th overall pick, the Arizona Coyotes take Noah Hanifin 3rd overall and the Flyers want Dylan Strome, The Leafs could trade the 4th overall pick for the 7th, plus 2 future second round picks.

Waters also believes the Leafs MUST trade Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel over the summer. The only way the Leafs can achieve this is they will have to pick up salary on each player. Waters feels Kessel’s and Phaneufs contracts are untradeable if the Leafs don’t take salary back.

The Score: The Pittsburgh Penguins are interested in Chicago Blackhawks forward Brandon Saad reports ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun. Saad is also a Pittsburgh-native, suggesting there could be motivation on his part to play close to home.

TSN’s Bob McKenzie reported that forward Brandon Sutter could be on the trading block in an attempt by the Penguins to acquire a top-six forward.
