The Toronto Sun: Steve Simmons is reporting that five teams contacted the Toronto Maple Leafs after the NHL trade deadline to further discuss their interest in captain Dion Phaneuf. Among the five were the Boston Bruins, where former GM Peter Chiarelli is now in Edmonton.
TSN Radio: Bob McKenzie was on Toronto’s TSN 1050 and was asked where he thinks Mike Babcock would like to coach? McKenzie believe Babcock wants to coach the Chicago Blackhawks. If the Blackhawks lose in the 2nd round, there is a good chance he could end up there. It is rumored that current coach Joel Quenneville does not get along with management.
The Detroit News: The Detroit Red Wings still need to add a top-four defenseman who can man the point on the power play, plus another big forward or two to help the Wings undersized scorers. The Red Wings have interest in Phaneuf, but the Leafs want prospect Anthony Mantha in return.
