The Calgary Flames have pulled a late summer blockbuster announcement with the signing of free agent forward Nazem Kadri.
Kadri agreed to a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Flames.
NHL trade rumors had floated all summer long that Nazem Kadri was ready to sign with the New York Islanders.
For Calgary to fit Kadri’s new contract into the Flames salary cap, they had to trade Sean Monahan and his $6.375 million cap hit to the Montreal Canadiens.
Right now, there is no word on if Kadri has a no-trade clause with the Calgary Flames, but this signing should make the Calgary Flames a playoff contender for the 2022-23 season.
