The Fourth Period: The Latest Toronto Maple Leaf news – Phil Kessel’s tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs appears to be coming to an end. The Leafs have been exploring the trade market on both Kessel and captain Dion Phaneuf for the last month. The Pittsburgh Penguins have shown major interest in Kessel, but those discussions have trailed off a little.
The Los Angeles Kings were engaged in serious talks with the Maple Leafs about Phaneuf, but it’s unclear if those discussions have broken apart or not.
Maple Leafs forwards Joffrey Lupul and Tyler Bozak have also been brought up in trade talks with other teams.
Meanwhile, the Leafs have spoken with the agents for free agent forward Matt Beleskey and former Leaf defenseman Cody Franson.
