Jordan Kyrou might be one of the most interesting fantasy hockey rebound candidates entering the 2026-27 NHL season.
My projection for Kyrou in his first season with the Washington Capitals is 31 goals, 38 assists and 69 points, putting him within striking distance of another 70-point campaign. That is a sizeable rebound from his disappointing 46-point season in St. Louis, but I don’t believe it’s an unrealistic one.
Washington didn’t acquire Kyrou to hide him in the middle six. The Capitals paid a substantial price to bring in a three-time 30-goal scorer, and the early projected lineup has Kyrou alongside Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome.
That immediately changes his fantasy ceiling.
Kyrou’s combination of speed, transition offense and shooting ability gives Washington something its top six badly needed. Add meaningful power-play opportunities and I see a legitimate path back toward the player who produced 73, 67 and 70 points in three consecutive seasons before last year’s decline.
For fantasy managers, this looks much more like a buy-the-bounce-back situation than the beginning of a permanent decline.

There is some built-in risk here because Kyrou underwent a minor knee procedure following last season. The encouraging news is that he said in June that he was healthy and having a good offseason, and the original expectation was that he would be ready for training camp.
We now have another positive data point: Kyrou joined Washington teammates for informal skating in Arlington on September 8. That doesn’t guarantee anything once training camp begins, but it is consistent with the earlier expectation that his knee would not prevent him from being ready for camp.
That update matters for fantasy hockey because my 69-point projection assumes something close to a full season.
Why Washington’s Power Play Could Boost Jordan Kyrou
This is where Kyrou becomes particularly interesting.
He managed 14 power-play points last season despite his overall offensive decline, and Washington now has considerably more scoring depth after adding Kyrou and Alex Tuch while retaining Ovechkin and integrating young offensive players such as Cole Hutson.
Hutson may be especially important. His puck movement could give Washington another legitimate power-play quarterback capable of creating clean entries and finding Kyrou in space.
If the Capitals experiment with a secondary unit involving Kyrou, Alex Tuch, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Ilya Protas and Cole Hutson, I would view Kyrou as one of its primary shooting threats. If instead Kyrou earns extended PP1 time alongside Washington’s established stars, his ceiling moves even higher.
That usage will be one of the biggest things fantasy managers should monitor during training camp.
Why I’m Predicting a Jordan Kyrou Bounce-Back
One bad season shouldn’t erase the larger sample.
Before 2025-26, Kyrou had scored 37, 31 and 36 goals in consecutive seasons. His point totals during that stretch were 73, 67 and 70. Last year’s 18-goal performance therefore looks dramatically different from his established scoring level.
That’s important when building projections.
Rather than assuming 46 points represents the new normal, I’m weighing Kyrou’s multi-year scoring history, his age, Washington’s investment in him, his expected top-six role and the possibility of improved power-play surroundings.
NHL.com’s own preseason fantasy projection has Kyrou at 67 points, so my 69-point forecast is only modestly more aggressive.
There is also a motivational angle. After the trade, Kyrou acknowledged that last year was disappointing and told NHL.com:
“I think I’ve got a lot to prove and have a bounce-back year this year.”
I wouldn’t draft somebody based on motivation alone, but the quote fits the circumstances. Washington traded meaningful assets for Kyrou and appears prepared to give him the offensive opportunity to prove it.
My Fantasy Hockey Take on Jordan Kyrou
I would target Kyrou aggressively if his draft position is depressed because fantasy managers are anchoring to last year’s numbers.
My realistic range is approximately 63-72 points, with 69 as my central projection.
A healthy season with consistent top-line and PP1 deployment could push him into the 75-point conversation. The downside scenario would be reduced power-play usage, lingering health concerns or Washington spreading offensive minutes across its suddenly deep forward group.
For standard fantasy leagues, however, Kyrou offers exactly the profile I like to target: a proven scorer coming off a disappointing year, changing teams, entering a favorable offensive environment and potentially available below his established ceiling.
