1942: The Detroit Red Wings shut out the Montreal Canadiens 10-0 at Olympia Stadium. The 10 consecutive goals-against are the most ever allowed by the Canadiens.
1973: Bobby Orr scores his 163rd NHL goal (in his 428th game), breaking the League record for career goals by a defenseman. Orr beats St. Louis Blues goaltender Jacques Caron at 19:25 of the second period to surpass the mark set Hockey Hall of Famer Red Kelly, who had scored 162 goals in 846 games as a defenseman. Despite Orr’s milestone goal, the Bruins lose 4-2.
1984: Wayne Gretzky matches his NHL career high for points in a game with eight, scoring four goals and assisting on four others for the Edmonton Oilers in a 12-8 victory against the Minnesota North Stars at Northlands Coliseum.
It’s the second eight-point game of Gretzky’s NHL career and comes less than two months after the first, Nov. 19, 1983, against the New Jersey Devils. His big night highlights the highest-scoring NHL game in 64 years.
Gretzky also extends his NHL-record assist streak to 17 games. He has 38 assists during the streak, which ends three nights later against the Hartford Whalers.
Exactly two years later, Gretzky becomes the first NHL player with 100 points in seven straight seasons. He reaches the milestone with two assists in a 4-3 victory against the visiting Whalers.
1988: Borje Salming of the Toronto Maple Leafs becomes the first Europe-trained player to appear in 1,000 NHL games. He has two assists in a 7-7 tie against the Vancouver Canucks at Maple Leaf Gardens. Salming also becomes the fifth player to appear in 1,000 games with the Maple Leafs.
1990: Mario Lemieux breaks a Pittsburgh Penguins record by extending his point streak to 29 games. His two assists help the Penguins defeat the Canucks 4-3 at Civic Arena.
1992: Mike Gartner has a goal and an assist for the New York Rangers to become the 33rd NHL player with 1,000 career points. The milestone comes during a 6-4 road loss against the New Jersey Devils.
2007: The St. Louis Blues tie an NHL record set by the Los Angeles Kings in 1974 by not allowing a first-period goal for the 12th consecutive game. The Blues also are flawless in the second and third periods of a 2-0 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks at Scottrade Center. Manny Legace makes 28 saves. The streak ends two nights later when the Nashville Predators score 2:08 into the first period.
2016: Forward Jarome Iginla of the Colorado Avalanche becomes the 19th NHL player to score 600 goals. The milestone comes when Iginla scores a power-play goal at 13:02 of the third period in a 4-1 victory against the Kings at Pepsi Center. His centering pass hits the skate of Kings defenseman Jake Muzzin and goes past goaltender Jhonas Enroth.
