Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch is reporting that a Sam Gagner for R.J. Umberger trade is floating around.
Umberger requested a trade after the Blue Jackets were eliminated from the playoffs. He has three years remaining at $4.6 million per season.
The Oilers have been trying to trade Gagner for over a year now.
The Oilers needs some size and grit which Umberger would provide. He carries an extra year on his contract compared to Gagner, so Columbus might have to eat some of his contract for the trade to work.
Umberger has to give the Blue Jackets on June 15 a list of 10 teams to which he may NOT be traded.
