NHL trade rumors were going around earlier in the offseason that the Colorado Avalanche may not be able to sign Gabriel Landeskog to a contract extension.

Andy Strickland is reporting Gabriel Landeskog could be asking for a salary that pays in the range of $9-$10 million per season in the open market. He’s willing to give Colorado a hometown discount but Colorado will need to up from their last offer which came in in the $5-$6 million range on a 8 yr term.

Strickland went on to say the teams Landeskog will have interest in signing with in the event he can’t come to terms with the Avalanche are the Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders and the St. Louis Blues.

Like many other teams in the league, the Avs will be facing serious salary cap issues soon with Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon will be due new contracts and they will be seeking long-term deals in the $9-$11 million range.
