It has been rumored that Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl have gone to Oilers management and expressed their desire to find a defenseman that can carry the puck out of the defensive zone instead of a dman that just shoots the puck off the glass.
The Edmonton Oilers want to make a big splash at the NHL trade deadline and they have their sights set on San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Chris Johnston was on TSN Radio 1050 and he was asked about the interest the Edmonton Oilers have in Erik Karlsson. He confirmed it is legit and it is the second time this season that GM Ken Holland has talked with Sharks management about a Karlsson trade.
Johnston went on to say in his radio hit that Karlsson’s Sharks salary cap hit can work if San Jose is willing to eat about 40% of his salary. Plus players with salary from Edmonton would have to go back to the Sharks.
Karlsson is on a torrid scoring pace this year, he is on track for 110 points and sits tied for 4th in the the NHL scoring race.

Barrie and Puljujarvi going the other way is $7.5M this year and $4.5M next year . SJ is eating about $2.75M of Burns salary so I would expect about the same on Karlsson . Oilers have all their 1st round picks . Karlsson is a huge upgrade on Barrie defensively.
