The Edmonton Oilers have turned things around since the new year hit and have positioned themselves to challenge for top spot in the Pacific Division.
They are currently on six game winning streak and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Their excellent play of late has not stopped the NHL trade rumors that are circling the team.
GM Ken Holland will still be looking to make a move at the NHL trade deadline and they will be seeking a left shot defenseman.
Will the Oilers target St. Louis Blues defenseman Niko Mikkola?
Jeff Marek was on his radio show discussing the Edmonton Oilers and what trades they could make. He mentioned Elliotte Friedman brought up a Niko Mikkola trade to the Oilers earlier this season and GM Ken Holland could revisit that idea in the coming weeks.
Marek believes Mikkola would be a great fit for the Oilers.
Mikkola, 26, who stands at 6’4″ was drafted 127th overall by the St. Louis Blues in the 5th round of the 2015 NHL entry draft. Currently over a career that spans 4 seasons, he has a total 20 points in 136 games played, and 2 playoffs points in 16 games played.
