With the Chicago Blackhawks floundering at the bottom of the league, rumors swirl about Taylor Hall being dealt at the NHL trade deadline.

The Chicago Blackhawks were expected to be a rebuilding team this season, but few anticipated just how rough things would get in the Windy City. Currently sitting dead last in the NHL with a dismal 14-28-2 record, the Blackhawks are all but guaranteed to be sellers at the upcoming NHL trade deadline.

One player who figures to garner significant interest from playoff contenders is veteran forward Taylor Hall. While his production hasn’t been atrocious, it hasn’t exactly lit the world on fire either. Hall currently has 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 43 games played this season.

What truly sent shockwaves through the NHL rumor mill was a healthy scratch for Hall under the previous Blackhawks coach, Luke Richardson. This move cast doubt on Hall’s standing with the organization and signaled to contending teams that he could be available.

Taylor Hall Still a Valuable Trade Chip

Despite his struggles and the occasional scratch, Taylor Hall remains a valuable asset for several reasons. First, the 33-year-old forward possesses a proven track record of success. A former Hart Trophy winner as the NHL’s MVP in 2018, Hall has a knack for putting the puck in the net.

Secondly, Hall’s versatility gives him added value. He can play up and down the lineup at both wing and center. This flexibility is a major asset for teams looking to bolster their offensive depth down the stretch.

What Will it Cost to Acquire Hall?

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has reported that the Blackhawks are likely looking to recoup a 3rd or 4th round draft pick in exchange for Hall. However, to make a deal more attractive for potential suitors, Chicago will likely need to retain half of Hall’s remaining $6 million salary cap hit.
