Now that the Carolina Hurricanes have locked up forward Andrei Svechnikov to a long-term deal, they are now looking at the trade market for a skilled winger to add.

Luke DeCock of the News & Observer reports the Hurricanes are seeking a skilled winger and about $4.5 million in cap space left to fill it.

DeCock went on to say, with a month to go before the first preseason game, it’s really a question of whether the Hurricanes want to spend that money now or preserve that flexibility to load up at the 2022 NHL trade deadline.

There is no word on who Carolina could target but DeCock did mention the Hurricanes could also look at trading Jake Gardiner to free up even more cap space to land a bigger fish in the NHL trade market.
