NHL trade winds are swirling with rumors of a potential blockbuster deal between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes, centered around Martin Necas and Linus Ullmark.

The NHL offseason is already heating up with NHL trade rumors, and a potential blockbuster between the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes is gaining serious traction.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the two clubs are revisiting discussions that began at the NHL trade deadline, this time centered around a swap of star winger Martin Necas for Vezina Trophy-winning goaltender Linus Ullmark.

Bruins, Hurricanes Reportedly Revisit Ullmark-Necas Trade Talks

Friedman, speaking on The Jeff Marek Show, confirmed that the Bruins have what the Hurricanes desperately need: a top-tier netminder. Ullmark’s stellar performance in the regular season over the past few seasons has made him one of the most coveted assets on the trade market.

The Hurricanes, on the other hand, boast a surplus of offensive talent. Necas, a speedy and skilled forward, has emerged as a potential trade chip for the Canes. With his contract expiring this offseason, the team may be looking to capitalize on his value and use his money to lockdown a top-tier goalie.

Friedman revealed that initial talks between the teams occurred at the trade deadline but were ultimately shelved as both teams focused on their playoff runs. However, with the offseason now underway, the discussions have reportedly reignited.

While Ullmark does possess a 16-team no-trade clause, it’s believed that Carolina is not on that list, potentially clearing a major hurdle for a deal. However, the exact parameters of any potential trade remain fluid.

The Bruins’ interest in Necas is understandable. His dynamic offensive skill set could provide a much-needed injection of youth and scoring to a team that struggled to find the back of the net in the playoffs. For the Hurricanes, acquiring Ullmark would solidify their goaltending position and make them immediate Stanley Cup contenders.
