Brock Boeser
Will the Vancouver Canucks look into trading forward Brock Boeser at some point during this season?

If the Vancouver Canucks plan on keeping Bo Horvat for the long-term, someone else on the team will have to be moved during the season or by the June 2023 NHL draft.

Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek were on their 32 Thoughts podcast and they discussed the Vancouver Canucks salary cap situation. Marek feels the Canucks should trade J.T. Miller as his no-trade clause does not kick in until July 2023.

Miller’s no-trade could have been back dated to start immediately but the Canucks decided against it. Friedman said there is no way Miller is being traded. It could very well be Brock Boeser.

Why would the Vancouver Canucks trade Brock Boeser?

If Miller is staying and the Canucks re-sign Horvat, someone has to go to shed money and that player is likely Brock Boeser.

At the recent Canucks press conference GM Patrick Allvin mentioned core players that Vancouver will build around in Thatcher Demko, Quinn Hughes, J.T. Miller, Bo Horvat and Elias Pettersson. Boeser’s name was never mentioned.

If that was a ‘tell’ by Allvin, then it is looking like Boeser could very well be the odd man out in Vancouver.

With Brock being signed to a new three-year deal, and he does not own a no-trade clause, it makes it easier for Canucks management to trade Boeser.

It will be an interesting season to watch the Canucks and what they do.
