Most NHL trade rumors have Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander being traded rather than re-signing with the Maple Leafs.
NHL chatter has him seeking a salary for $10 million/year. Leafs management have offered him a shade under $9 million/year.
If the Leafs do intend to re-sign Auston Matthews and re-sign Mitch Marner to big deals, the Leafs can’t afford Nylander at a $10 million AVV.
Calgary Flames interested in a William Nylander trade
If William Nylander is traded, he could be headed to the Calgary Flames. Flames defenseman Noah Hanifin has stated he has no intention of signing a long-term deal in Calgary and he could be the main piece coming back in a Nylander trade.
The NHL rumor that has gained the most traction is Hanifin and Mikael Backlund at 50% retained on his salary for Nylander.
Reports also suggest that the Leafs private jet was in Calgary a few days ago. Was it coincidence or was Brad Treliving there to have a chat with Flames management?
