There were NHL trade rumors earlier this offseason circulating around that the San Jose Sharks were quietly shopping Tomas Hertl and the Ottawa Senators had interest in a Hertl trade.
Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reports there’s zero doubt the Boston Bruins will have interest in Hertl if he becomes a trade market option.
Haggerty went on to say, the real complication in a Hertl trade is his $5.625 million cap hit. Hertl will undoubtedly be looking for a big raise as he approaches unrestricted free agency following the season.
The Bruins would need to move Charlie Coyle ($5.25 million) to the Sharks in order to make the money work given that they currently have just $1.635 million in cap space after their NHL free agent spending frenzy.
