Another year and another playoff disappointment for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Will there be big changes this off-season? You can count on it. The Toronto Maple Leaf core players cannot get it done come playoff time and one of the big 4 has to be traded.
The question is, will it be Auston Matthews? Mitch Marner? John Tavares? Or William Nylander? The only player with a No-move clause in their contract is Tavares. That leaves, Marner, Matthews and Nylander.
Any other year, I would say it would be Nylander that would be traded, but I do think GM Kyler Dubas (if he is still the GM) could look at trading Marner.
NHL Trade rumors have the Columbus Blue Jackets shopping Seth Jones as it has been reported that Jones does not want to re-sign in Columbus.
Would a Marner for Jones trade work? The Leafs have the offence, what Jones would bring, is the #1 d-man the Leafs desperately need. The Leafs would need Jones to sign a contract extension for the trade to work.
The question is, will the Leafs trade Marner? Or are they going to keep the team as status quo and see what happens next year?
