Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell is likely playing his last season in Toronto and will be looking for a big pay day next offseason.

With the recent signing of Morgan Rielly and backup goalie Petr Mrazek signed for another two years at a cap hit of $3.8 million, the Toronto Maple Leafs will likely not be able to re-sign Jack Campbell unless William Nylander or Mitch Marner is traded next offseason.

Michael Traikos of the Toronto Sun reports the ideal time to re-sign Campbell to a contract extension has long passed. If Campbell continues his excellent play and with how Phillip Grubauer altered the goalie market by signing a six-year, contract worth $35.4 million. The Leafs have no cap space to re-sign Campbell next offseason as he will likely demand a $5 million – $6 million per year salary.

Traikos went on to say, Campbell will likely be playing for another team next season. The Leafs did have a plan after they signed the core four to the big contracts a few years back, but with COVID-19 and a stagnant salary cap not going up, has ruined any plans the Leafs had two years ago.

Mrazek will likely be the Leafs starting goalie next season with a backup goalie being paid the league minimum.
