The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Garret Sparks to a one-year, $750,000 contract extension.

Sparks, who was scheduled to become a restricted free agent in July, has a 7-5-1 record this season with a 3.09 goals-against average and a .902 save percentage with one shutout.

The 25-year-old has a career 13-14-2 record since debuting with the club during the 2015-16 season. His career goals-against average sits at 3.05, while he has an .897 save percentage through 31 games.

Sparks was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the seventh round (189th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

He becomes the third pending restricted free agent the Maple Leafs have extended for a cap hit below $800,000 this season, joining Trevor Moore ($775,000 for two seasons) and Calle Rosen ($750,000 for two seasons). The team signed centre Auston Matthews to a five-year, $58.17 million extension last month.

With Sparks signed, the Leafs have five restricted free agents remaining on their current 23-man roster in Mitch Marner, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson, Nicolas Petan and Igor Ozhiganov.
