Dallas Stars interested in Dion Phaneuf
The Fourth Period: Last year the Toronto Maple Leafs came very close to trading Dion Phaneuf to the Detroit Red Wings. The Dallas Stars are seeking a top 4 defenceman and have contacted the Leafs about the availability of Phaneuf. The Stars have been scouting the Leafs lately. Phaneuf has a limited no-movement clause and might not want to leave Toronto. The Stars would also want the Leafs to eat some of Phaneuf’s salary.
Dustin Byfuglien likely to be traded at trade deadline
The Hockey News: With the Winnpeg Jets struggling in the western conference, it is looking like Dustin Byfuglien could be traded at the NHL Trade Deadline. TSN’s Bob McKenzie claims GM Kevin Cheveldayoff’s fellow GMs anticipate Byfuglien will be available before the trade deadline. They doubt the Jets can afford to re-sign him and promising blueliner Jacob Trouba.
Teams still interested in trading for Jonathan Drouin
Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman is reporting the Montreal Canadiens are still very interested in Jonathan Drouin, while Friedman speculates the Detroit Red Wings could be quietly looking at Drouin. The St. Louis Blues, Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators are also in the mix. Most believe GM Steve Yzerman would like to trade Drouin to the Western Conference.
