Latest Steven Stamkos to the Leafs Rumors
TSN: Bob McKenzie touched on speculation that the Dion Phaneuf trade might help the Toronto Maple Leafs pursue Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos if the latter becomes available via free agency this summer. Darren Dreger was on TSN Radio and mentioned that Lightning GM Steve Yzerman is willing to pay Stamkos $9 million/year where the Leafs could offer Stamkos $12 million/year.
Ottawa Sun: Bruce Garrioch is reporting that Steven Stamkos isn’t close to a new contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. It was reported last month the Lightning offered him an eight-year deal worth $8.5 million per season, but the belief is the Stamkos camp seeks around $10.5 million annually. If Stamkos hits the open market, the speculation is he’ll sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

TSN: With Dustin Byfuglien re-signed and Dion Phaneuf traded Pierre LeBrun considers Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis is the top rental defenseman at the NHL Trade Deadline, LeBrun claims the LA Kings talked about him and suggesting the Dallas Stars and Washington Capitals could also be interested. Hamhuis, however, has a full no-movement clause and it’s uncertain if he’ll waive it.
