NHL trade rumors for May 4, 2022 feature the Ottawa Senators looking to trade for a top-six winger in the offseason.

May the 4th be with everyone. In the NHL trade rumors rundown today, the Ottawa Senators want to make the playoffs next year and they will be looking to add some players either through trade or free agency this offseason to help with the playoff push for 2022-23 season.

Bruce Garioch of the Ottawa Sun reports, it’s no secret the Sens would like to add a top-six winger to play on the right side of skilled centre Tim Stuetzle. That will either come through a trade or when free agent frenzy opens on July 13.

Garioch went on to say the team will have interest in signing free agent winger Claude Giroux this summer. Ottawa may also target Minnesota Wild winger Kevin Fiala. GM Bill Guerin told teams interested in Fiala at the NHL trade deadline he wouldn’t do anything until after the season.

The Wild are in a salary cap crunch next year with the buyouts of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise. Fiala is looking like he could be a salary cap casualty.

The Senators have five draft picks in the first three rounds of the 2022 NHL draft and a lot of prospects, the Senators could easily package something up to make a trade and land a winger to improve.
