What will the Toronto Maple Leafs do this off-season? The TSN group speculates that William Nylander could have played his last game as a Maple Leaf. Everyone knows the Leafs need to shed salary and the prime candidate to go is Nylander.
Before any of you say that no one with trade for the money Nylander is making. Nylander is due a signing bonus of $8 million this July 1st and once that is paid out by the Maple Leafs, Nylander will be owed $25 million over the next 5 years which is a very salary friendly contract for teams that cannot spend to the salary cap.
Darren Dreger, Pierre McGuire and Gord Miller have all stated that Nylander would do well playing with another team and likely be a 30-35 goal scorer.
The Carolina Hurricanes, Arizona Coyotes and the Florida Panthers could target Nylander in the off-season. Trading Nylander could also land the Leafs a decent top-4 defenceman.
Nazem Kadri will likely not be traded as he has a great salary cap friendly contract and he is a good player and a player that has some grit that the Leafs need desperately.
Toronto would like to trade Patrick Marleau, but because of age and his salary, he will likely be a Toronto Maple Leaf on the 3rd line making $6 million. (Ouch).
Toronto will be in very tough to re-sign restricted free agents Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson. It is very likely that one of them will be traded this off-season.
