The two players got into a shoving match after the whistle blew and when they fell to the ground, Lemieux bit Tkachuk’s hand. Following the little tussle on the ground, Tkachuk accused Lemieux of biting him in the hand. Video showed that Tkachuk’s hand was bleeding after the incident.

Notable NHL suspensions for biting:

November 2021: Brendan Lemieux (Kings) 5 games
January 2009: Jarko Ruutu (Senators) 2 games
November 2003: Marc Savard (Thrashers) 1 game
March 1990: Dave Manson (Blackhawks) 3 games

The five game suspension Lemieux has received likely has set a standard going forward. Any player that bites will get a minimum of five games.
