Today's NHL rumors rundown has the Toronto Maple Leafs shopping Nick Ritchie. Will the Leafs be able to move out his contract?

In Tuesday’s NHL rumors rundown we will look at the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs have been one of the top teams in the NHL season all season long while handling multiple injuries that has allowed the team not worry too much about their salary cap situation.

Now that the team is getting healthy, they are facing a cap crunch and one player that could be traded to free up cap space is Nick Ritchie.

James Mirtle of The Athletic reports with Mitch Marner out of the long-term injured reserve, and Ilya Mikheyev and Petr Mrazek also both back and healthy, the Leafs are finally confronting the cap squeeze we’ve wondered about all season.

Mirtle went on to say, with Ritchie being a healthy scratch on the weekend, he is looking to be the odd man out. If the Leafs can find a taker for his $2.5 million cap hit for rest of this season and next year, he will be moved.

If there is no interest in a Ritchie trade, the Leafs will likely put him on waivers to free up cap space.

Either way, something has to give soon unless assistant GM Brandon Pridham has another card up his sleeve that we’re missing.
