What will the Pittsburgh Penguins do about the goalie situation?

TSN 690: Bob McKenzie feels the Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending situation between veteran Marc-Andre Fleury and young Matt Murray plays out in the coming season. Citing Fleury’s no-movement clause and Murray’s rise to prominence as a No. 1 goalie, McKenzie believes the Penguins want a little more time for things to shake out. Fleury or Murray will most likely be traded by the 2017 NHL deadline or at the June draft. The Penguins do not want to lose either goalie for nothing at the expansion draft as only 1 goalie can be protected.

Restricted free agent news on Dmitry Orlov, Ryan Strome, Johnny Gaudreau

Sportsnet: Latest restricted free agent news… Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov sounded uncertain about the possibility of being re-signed before the start of the season. The New York Islanders have a rule that players who aren’t signed by the start of training camp will sit out the season. That could affect RFA forward Ryan Strome. The Calgary Flames and winger Johnny Gaudreau are reportedly $1.5 million apart in contract talks. The Gaudreau camp seeks up to $8 million per season.

Why has Kris Russell not signed with a team?

The Hockey News: Kris Russell has interest from as many as eight different teams, but they may all be waiting to see what the Anaheim Ducks do with Cam Fowler. The delay in Russell landing a new deal could be due to a handful of teams still waiting to see what the Anaheim Ducks will do once they re-sign restricted free agent defenseman Hampus Lindholm. The Ducks have a very deep blueline, with youngsters Shea Theodore and Brandon Montour waiting in the wings. Once Lindholm is re-signed, it’s expected they could put another defenseman on the trade block. And the likely defenceman to be traded is Fowler.
