Phil Kessel

The Score: The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to deal Phil Kessel before the 2015 NHL Draft. Kessel was a major topic of conversation at the NHL Scouting Combine, with several teams inquiring as to what it would take to make a deal. The Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames have serious interest in Kessel.

Damion Cox reports:

But if the whispers around the league are accurate, that’s about to change, and possibly in a way that will rock the 2015 NHL draft by the time it opens for business in Sunrise, Fla., on June 26, just two weeks away.

In particular, there’s a widespread belief, as first reported a week ago by Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, that the Leafs are making known their intent to deal Kessel before the draft, which could then trigger other moves.

The Fourth Period: Could the Boston Bruins sign center Derek Roy to a contract in the off season? The Edmonton Oilers have no room for Roy now, as they are set to draft Connor McDavid. Roy will come at a cheap price which the capped strapped Bruins need.

WRAL Sports: GM Ron Francis is not looking to trade Carolina Hurricanes forward Eric Staal right now. Staal has a full no-movement clause, and still has a year left on his contract. He might waive his no-movement-clause at the 2016 NHL Trade deadline to play for a Stanley Cup contender.
