The Hockey News: Brandon Saad has an excellent playoffs for the Chicago Blackhawks. The team is very tight to the salary cap and they need to resign Saad. There is the possibility he could receive an offer sheet in the off-season. In order to re-sign Saad it’s widely expected the Blackhawks will try to shed salary this summer, with forwards Patrick Sharp ($5.9-million annual cap hit) and winger Bryan Bickell ($4 million) believed the likely trade candidates.

Sportsnet 960: Elliotte Friedman reports the Calgary Flames could seek a physical scoring forward like Boston Bruins Milan Lucic or St. Louis Blues forward David Backes. Friedman also said the Flames won’t be pursuing Toronto’s Phil Kessel. He also doesn’t see the Flames pursuing a smallish forward like Carolina Hurricanes Jeff Skinner.

The Fourth Period: The Detroit Red Wings are looking to make an impactful trade to improve their hockey club this month and are reportedly willing to trade their first-round draft pick and top prospect Anthony Mantha. It’s believed Detroit and Toronto have already kick-started talks on Dion Phaneuf, and a deal could be ironed out by the June 26 NHL Draft.
