Edmonton Sun: Jim Matheson reports Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli was recently spotted in Minnesota scouting a game between the Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning. Matheson claims Chiarelli’s in the market for a third-line center and was looking at Brian Boyle of the Lightning. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets also have an interest in Boyle.

Could the Pittsburgh Penguins trade for Matt Duchene?

Sportsnet: Nick Kypreos recently suggested the possibility that the Pittsburgh Penguins could pursue Matt Duchene. Elliotte Friedman also feels Duchene’s teammate Gabriel Landeskog could also be a good fit there. Kypreos suggested Penguins defenseman Derrick Pouliot as potential trade bait for a Colorado trade, Friedman feels a better option is Olli Maatta.

Ansar Khan claims if the Red Wings sell it’ll only be pending UFAs such as Thomas Vanek, Brendan Smith and Steve Ott. Vanek could have the most value, potentially fetching “a second-round pick or some combination of picks and a prospect.
