Evgeni Malkin

TribLive.com: Big changes could be coming for the Pittsburgh Penguins this off season. The organization said it has no plans to part with star centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Fleury isn’t going anywhere, either. Left wing Chris Kunitz and defenseman Rob Scuderi have endured a steep decline in their respective performances during the past two seasons. While each possesses multiple years on his contract, the Penguins might be tempted to unload their salaries.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal believes the Penguins should entertain offers for Malkin this summer if they hope to address their crumbling roster.

The Hockey News: The Colorado Avalanche are expected to improve their defense corps in the off-season through free agency. Landing a puck-moving defenseman will be a priority.

Nashville’s Cody Franson, Washington’s Mike Green and San Jose’s Matt Irwin among possible UFA targets for the Avalanche. Los Angeles’ Andrej Sekera and Buffalo’s Andrej Meszaros are also  candidates.

Winnipeg Free Press:  The Winnipeg Jets must decide if they’ll re-sign Andrew Ladd and Dustin Byfuglin (both eligible in 2016 for UFA status) to contract extensions this summer. Defenseman Tobias Enstrom, slated to earn $5.75 million next season might become a trade candidate.
