Sam Gagner remains unsigned as the offseason moves along. NHL trade rumors are floating all over social media on which team he could sign with? We will look at three teams Gagner could sign with once training camp starts next month.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking for players to sign at the league minimum and versatile enough to move up and down the lineup. Jason Spezza played that role the past few years and the Leafs would like to find another player to fill that hole. Sam Gagner would be the most logical choice.
Gagner played his minor hockey in the GTA and would love to finish off his career as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
Edmonton Oilers
If the Edmonton Oilers do not sign Phil Kessel to a contract, they will look at signing Sam Gagner.
Social Media has been going nuts with Oilers fans wanting Gagner to sign with the team. The Oilers did draft Gagner 6th overall in the 2007 NHL entry draft.
Sam is 33 games away from playing in his 1000th NHL game. It would be great to see him reach that milestone with the Oilers.
Colorado Avalanche
Nazem Kadri is likely signing with the New York Islanders in the coming days and not returning to the Avs on a hometown discount.
The Avalanche will be looking to add a player that can play on the 3rd or 4th line. That player could be Gagner.
Sam put up 31 points last year with 29 of those points as regular strength points. He still has some game left in him.
There is still demand for Gagner’s services. Most fans would like to see him finish his career with the team that drafted him. Plus it would be awesome to see him play his 1000th game in an Oilers Jersey.
Bring him back home. He will be an Oiler when the season starts.
